    Hi everybody.
I've been teaching in English medium schools since I qualified in '97.
This question is purely as a matter of interest... Hopefully somebody can enlighten me... What way do gaelscoileanna teach English reading? When do they teach the letter sounds, blends etc.?
I know that some directive was reversed recently regarding this but just wondering what way this works in your classrooms?
    Thank you!

Our children start Jolly Phonics in junior infants, but as in most places, doesn't do formal reading in infants. One of our senior infants class is doing peer-tutuoring with 4th class at the moment ,while the other class are doing shared reading at home, they will then swop before Easter. They start formal Irish reading in first.
