if you are lucky enough to have a licence for a centrefire pistol can you change your gun for a different one thats already in the republic or are you stuck with what you have ?

just an academic question at the moment .

Not sure but I think you might ba able to change like for like, same calibre etc
if you have not been refused or win your appeal then you are licenced for a cfp and should be able to get another one in its place.
check with the firearms policy unit at the garda HQ.
problem what will you get if you trade in your old one????

    This is what it says:-

'3D.—(1) As and from the date of commencement of this section, no application for a firearm certificate in respect of a short firearm shall be
considered by an issuing person other than for—
    ...

    (c) a short firearm for which the applicant for the firearm certificate held a firearm certificate on or before 19 November 2008.'

Yes. Unless the replacement parts carry a serial number like a replacement receiver, in which case you may have a problem.

Taking your point of Cuban cars.Do you kinow that there is a home industry in rebuilding those in Cuba??Near enough every one has been rebuilt appx four times by the Cubans since Castro came to power??
Just goes to show how good nd invntive folks cn become whn they nd to.OTOH ,unless you do somthing drastic to your handgun, most of them are now rated to over 100k worth of shots. So they will proably outlive us in our shooting lives anyway.:D
