Dropping .html from printed links

If I have a link eg;

http://www.mysite.com/mylink.html

Is there a way to code it so people can type www.mysite.com/mylink and still get to mylink.html?

if you're on linux and can change your .htaccess files then yes there is ?

you're looking at wanting mod rewrite rules

a simpler option that should work depending on your host (and if you are ok with changing the name of your mylink.html)
Is to set up a sub-folder (sub-directory)

Create a new folder in your site and call it mylink, then place your mylink.html file in this folder and rename it to index.html

So when you type www.mysite.com/mylink it will default to the index of that directory

problem with this method is that if you're referencing /mylink/ and /mylink and /mylink/index.html ... you're potentially going to dilute your link love ... so you'll have to sort that as well

as long as you point all your hrefs referencing that page to /mylink/ you should be ok though right?

i would also suggest /my-link/ as well, break it up into keywords.
