In fairness, Ive seen them take days to get around to dealing with more serious stuff like assaults.

Although I dont Blame them, they clearly have their hands tied by a government full of chancers.

You can identify a social group from a reference to their vehicle colour and reg on the Internet? Your skills are clearly wasted on here, you have a higher calling.

gyppos. In fairness didn't see them doing anything but they matched the description exactly. Didn't call the cops

Yes and you have to be particularly vigilant towards those that drive the lower roof commodities such as the Ford Transit and Toyota Hiace varieties. Visible visor decals "Ford" or "Toyota" or chrome bull bars are also a dead give away.

I think the apparent stealing of bicycles was the more relevant bit.

Feck off, bring yer high hose back to the nackers. The country is in a state because of all this PC bollix.

Il say what I want and what most sane people were thinking, if you have a problem, tough, maybe you can watch Barney and sing "I love you you love me" instead.

Yes, The chances of a red hiace van loading/robbing bikes off the street being operated by filthy nackers is quite high.

    Get real.

If they are normal joes soaps and not nackers ill donate e20 to that smokescreen pavee point.

Nope, I have nothing but repect for the Gardai, It takes a some person to take so much **** , with so little support.

Gards do the best they can do, Its the Government that dictates their objectives/roles/wages etc.

    I say fair play.

Believe me Im sure the gards would love to have some freedom and not be shackled by a in efficient and incompetant management.

Does somebody need a little hug? I think he does.

Once done you can continue with filling out your application form for the Irish equivalent of the British National Party (take your pick, there are a few to choose from). They welcome "free thinking", "non-PC", "people saying it like it is", "we speak for everyone", persons such as yourself. The rest of "us" clearly are too detached from reality in our ivory towers filled with high horses.

No that is "THE Ironing", that reminds me, it is time to revisit the playlists and see what movement is needed between Angry girl, whingey girl, hormonal harpy and legendary lady playlists.

Becareful, Its along way down from that horse.

Yea whatever, I can respect other cultures etc, no problem with them.

Ive a major ****ing problem with pikies who think they should be entitled to do what the **** they want because its their "tradition" or because they are a "minority". If they want to claim the dole, if they want to avail of county councils providing them with facilities such as electricity and toilets with tax payers money, tehn they can cop the **** on and respect societies rules.

Same goes for the rest of the Irish and foreigh spongers on the dole(not to be confused with the genuine people who have been unfortunate to lose their jobs, im talking about the scammers here), **** off elsewhere.

If you have a problem and are sympathetic to being **** all over by a bunch of scumbags and spongers then Id suggest you get down in the gutter with them and take em into your house.

Your tune will change when these pricks start robbing your house, bike, cars, beat the **** out of you for a few quid.

What about a Conservative who's had his bike stolen?

    article-0-020E725E00000578-571_468x312.jpg

The Irish Times said recently that 3,136 bikes were reported stolen in the first nine months of 2009 (up about 40% on the figure for 2008, an increase they link to the bike to work scheme). That suggests about 4,200 thefts reported in 2009, and the actual number stolen is likely to be considerably higher. You only need to assume a cost of about €250 per bike for that to be a million-Euro business.

I don't really care whether the thieves live in bungalows, trailers or mansions, I'd just rather see them in cells.

Okay, I'll confess I'm a little bit lost...

Anyway, maybe an apology is in order. I'm firmly in the doozerie camp (if I might christen it thus), and the tone of some of the posts in this thread I find pretty unpleasant, to put it mildly. As you appeared to be taking doozerie to task for his post and were the last poster before me, I reacted to your words. You weren't really the most deserving of targets. :o

Mods- given that this thread has served its original pupose, which was to highlight bike theft at a specific time, could it now be locked? I don't see it going anywhere except downhill. If certain posters wish to demonstrate their crass prejudices, there are other places on the internet that'll gladly have them.

Which can all be summed up as "Well, I'm not a racist myself, BUT ..." which, as is always the case, is a viewpoint intended to make the holder feel like they can be as abusive as they like about others while retaining a feeling of righteous indignation throughout. I think you'll find that your horse stands a lot higher than mine in this "discussion".

And as for the "PC brigade", which you seem to have me pegged as some kind of representative of, your definition of "PC brigade" is basically anyone that happens to disagree with your particular views at this moment and time. You might like to think that labeling a group of people of a differing opinion from your own as "PC brigade" effectively dismisses their views, but it's a bit like putting your hands over your eyes and choosing to believe that the world can't see you simply because you can no longer see them. Most people grow out of that form of reasoning in childhood.

I have little sympathy for people who take advantage of others. In a case like this, of people driving around in a van stealing bikes do, I even have a collective name for them. I call them "criminals". It's a very broad social group, it welcomes people from all walks of life, all classes, all sexes, all religions, all races, etc.

Oh, and I have had encounters with them too, mostly when on the bike. I've had them scream at me, drive at me, physically threaten me, etc. Life would be so much easier if I were able to slot them all into a very small social group so that I could always recognise them well in advance and avoid them, but life isn't so easy and today's middle-class well-dressed model citizen is just as likely to be tomorrow's axe-wielding murderer as just about anyone else.

Given your clear enthusiasm for labeling particular groups, I presume then that you are happy to be lumped under the label of a "sandal wearing, law breaking, irresponsible murderous cyclist", or whatever it is that extreme anti-cyclists are using to describe people on bikes these days. You certainly share their mindset of looking to simplify the process of identifying "the enemy" so that you can focus all of your outrage on them. I wonder if that is a thought that you find comforting?
