Cannot view Thread tags

Hi, I have a feeling there is a ridiculously simple answer to this... how can I view a thread's tags? It may be right in front of my eyes but I never seem to see the tags, or are tags actually invisible, and perhaps only related to the workings of a search engine? Thanks in advance if you can shed some light
