Oil stove Query

I am currently looking to buy a oil stove(something like this) http://www.waterfordstanley.com/Products/1038.htm
I have a question-does the distance from the front of the stove to the end of the hearth have to be 300mm or is this only for multi fuel stoves(ie hot coals, spitting)? the stoves with the least depth will only leave a few inces distance from front to the end of the hearth, would the heat ruin a wooden floor?
