Had quite an odd day yesterday, a website review i wrote for my college paper went down very badly and i was subject to a raft of complaints and abuse on my blog, my twitter and the paper's web site.

I was wondering though, has anyone been the subject of a hate campaign or received enraged replies to something you wrote or said? I think i got off quite lightly considering this is the internet and i'd love to hear stories if you've got em.

Yup, I wrote an article about stem-cell research. You can guess how that went down with some of the more mentally questionable right wing zealots on the interwebz! :p

Sort-of, yeah, but not quite. I was involved in an adjustment made to a product a couple of years ago that threw down some sharp battlelines among the fans. It didn't get personal, it stayed directed at the company and those in charge so no angry emails for me, but it really showed me how passionate people can be, both those who agreed with the changes and those who detested them.

I knew a real artsy-fartsy girl a few years back, very self-obsessed and very sure of her own abilities as a writer. Unfortunately, she may have in fact been the worst writer I've ever seen, and one day out of boredom I took one of her short stories and wrote a long, detailed blog outlining everything I found wrong with it.

She came across it months later and there was a bit of a hate campaign launched by her and her friends. I was hoping it'd be something awfully exciting like a Salman Rushdie situation or some such, but unfortunately 18-year-old girls aren't as inventive as that.

The whole thing could have been avoided if she hadn't been vaingloriously googling her own name, I'll say that.

You're a newbie. We haven't started on you yet. Now where're those biscuits I asked for?

OP - you are, I assume, going to tell us at some point, what the article was about?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

What, so we can all spam up his email and twitter with even more hateful comments?

... yeah, OP, where's the link?

Well, it was just a review of a website that was supposed to a bit lighthearted but it wasn't taken as such. Complaints were all from fans of the site rather than students. Never really considered that non-students would read it to be honest. It was a strange experience, being tweeted by scary americans :P

You must realise that by posting in a public forum you are leaving yourself open to criticism just as much as you are open to praise.
Sometimes people on the web use the shield of anonymity that forums such as this may offer and it is all the easier to insult people anonymously. Take it on the chin and if you cant take criticism blogging is not for you.

Get it all the time when I speak out again the closing of vital services, locally and and in Dublin like the Crumlins Childrens Hospital.
The FF/Greens don't like me and other public pointing out that they are lashing out at our kids, causing cancellations of operations, closing of wards, cut back of services and vital staff, etc... Example: something I wrote for the Irish Mail and was printed in their paper: HERE
(I have one daughter attending there with an incurable infliction - she attends for stabilisation of her condition and thus hopefully not to see its advancement)
...Then when I speak out about how the rights of the culprits seem to have more sway and precedence with them rather than the victims of the criminal scumbags - the nastiness of political motivated others REALLY comes to the fore.
(I support and fund raise for the Dublin Rape Crises Centre)

Stuff them - they're not shutting this irritating fogie up!

O! ...and the Scientology cult REALLY, REALLY don't like me - but thats another story. :D

sounds like a story i'd like to hear, if they're pissed off then you're doing something right.

I'd never decry boards, the scariness is part of its charm

That guy on Abbey St offering personality tests is there for 20 years.

The first time he ever approached me was when I was coming out of the old Lighthouse Cinema on Abbey St and he asked me did I want a personality test.

I just said "Personality test for what?" and he said "to see if there are any parts of your personality that are blocked that we can help you unfree".

I just laughed and said "Will you get to fcuk".

I wasn't laughing out of knowledge of Scientology or anything. I thought he was queer and was coming on to me :pac:
