Probably because of Ryanair cutting a load of flights from Shannon. Apparently the Airport Authority wanted to increase landing charges and Ryanair said no. These are the knock on effects which are now being felt - bus drivers and the like out of work (not to mention ground staff in the airport).

It makes no sense. We're in a recession with high levels of unemployment and a tourism industry which is in decline. The government go and introduce a travel tax which has contributed to people losing their jobs and discourages tourists from coming here. And the Airport Authorities want to increase their charges too.......

    The mind boggles!

Is every Shannon service being canceled or just some of them?

EDIT: Irish Citylink reduces frequency of Coach services between Galway City and Shannon Airport.

Effective from Monday, 22 Feb 10, Irish Citylink will reduce their departures to 6 services daily. Passenger numbers through Shannon Airport have dropped significantly (12%) in the last 12 months and with further declines expected it is no longer viable for Citylink to continue operating additional frequency. Irish Citylink will continue to monitor this route and adjust its services in response to passenger demand. All pre-booked passengers will be entitled to a full refund. Please contact our offices on 091 564 164 to make alternative arrangements. www.citylink.ie
