The Fantasy Baseball League of Ireland had its inaugural season in 2009 and is now looking to expand to 12 teams in 2010. It's standard 5x5 roto with a live draft in Dublin. If you've played fantasy baseball before and are familiar with sitting up at 2am waiting for some guy in Montana to make his pick, then I assure you that drafting in person is much more fun!

If you're interested in joining, drop me a PM.

I'm in this league - was good standard last year and good laugh on draft day.

Would be great to get it to 12 this year.

Sounds interesting. I've only ever played Yahoo Fantasy Baseball before.

We used yahoo last year for the league.

its already a big waste of time regardless,
now it sounds pointless with no money involved.

the live draft is fun though

This year will be a 12 team mixed roto league, 23 man roster, August trade deadline, weekly lineups.

We didn't have an entry fee last year as we were just trying to get the league running. To be honest, if we brought one in it would likely be very low.

its not fun in any free fantasy league when managers do silly things

It was actually fairly serious last year. Pride is as important as money :D

How long was it serious for??

Was it pride or refusal to admit that you already have wasted so many
hours you may as well keep trying?

pride all the way for me. I was last at one stage so absolutely had to at least just get off the bottom :P

Can I suggest something like a €10 entry so as to be able to get a jersey-of-choice for the winner, cap for runner-up? Or is that taking away from the pride bit too much?

Hey guys. Sorry to hijack the thread.

I want to take part in ESPN Fantasy Baseball this year as I have a few friends in America that play it.
However, I don't understand how to go about it and ESPN FAQs are filled with assumptions!
Can anyone either help explain to me here or PM me?
    Cheers!

What exactly are you unsure of? Do you understand fantasy baseball in general and it's the ESPN version you don't get? Or is it drafts and such that you don't get?

I've played ESPN before but not this year.

It's the setting up of the team and entering a random league etc.

The first thing I saw when I went to create my profile was a list of leagues, public and private.
Assuming I dont yet know my friends league (if they have one), do I just join a random public league? Is it luck of the draw as to the standard of league you are in? This potentially means that you know no one in your league.
I assume private leagues are ones set up by a group of friends/club etc.

Next is the drafting. While I understanding drafting from watching drafts myself, is this how it happens in fantasy baseball as well? The times of the drafts are not very euro friendly and if it takes place for 4 hours after midnight it's not ideal if you have work the next day. Is the only way around this to auto-select your team, which of course I don't want to do as it means I don't have full control over the process.

This points might seem a little newbie-ish and possibly there are just too mnay points to explain to me! But I am used to the style of soccer/football/rugby fantasy competitions we have here and their ways are pretty ingrained into me at this stage to fully comprehend a different style!

Most people in the league have some sort of outside link to somebody else in the league, which keeps its own pressure on everybody to take it seriously.

Last Sunday's draft was very, very good fun. Will have to organise a midseason owner's meeting* as well as a prizegiving** at the end of the season.

    :)
