Hi, hope someone can help diagnose problem, when coming to a stop in my E46 318ci 2002 coupe, when i have my foot on the break you can hear a grinding noise, this only occurs when the car is about to come to a complete stop i.e foot on break at low speeds. I thought if the pads were worn the sensors would come on letting you know this? also I have visually looked at all 4 pads and they appear fine, plenty left on them, any ideas what the problem could be?

Grinding noise usually caused by worn pads (no pad material) rubbing on worn discs.
Your pads could have worn unevenly, so you'd be best off taking them out to inspect. You can also check the discs while you're at it.
Sometimes the same noise is caused bya small stone getting lodged into the pads, or between the discs and pads. Again, just remove the pads to check.
    Hope this helps.
