Here are some of these rules - we do not make all of them, but do have to enforce them:

No Commercial Advertising: If you want to advertise your business, then contact the sales team here and ask about advertising. Unfortunately, this applies to "nixers" also. You can also post a notice on www.adverts.ie for free.

No txt spk: I get why people feel the urge to use text speak. I understand that with the character limitations in place in SMS form and the likes of twitter it is useful to use text speak to get a point across. However here we have no similar character restrictions and it is not a language that most posters speak or wish to speak. Many view it as annoying and difficult to understand. Please refrain from using it on this forum.

No Personal abuse: Pretty self explanatory. If you see a post you object to, then click the "Report Post" icon under the username of the person who posted it . This will bring the post to the attention of the relevant people. Don't respond in kind, you will just as likely get an infraction yourself.

Trolling: Posting comments designed to incite arguements or deliberately insult others, be they members of Boards.ie or otherwise will result in an immediate temporary ban of between a week and a month. Responding to a troll is not ideal either. Please use the "report post" button and let the moderators deal with it. "Please don't feed the trolls".

Off-topic posting: Please try to focus on the subject of the thread when posting. Of course there's nothing wrong with light-hearted banter but do try to keep the flow of the thread related to the topic being discussed.

One account only: Having multiple accounts will most likely get you a site ban.

Stuff for sale: Boards.ie has a "for sale" sub-site at www.adverts.ie. Please use that if you are selling stuff. If you wish to place a link in your signature for your ad on adverts.ie, that's quite alright.

Back Seat Modding: Moderators and moderators only may give on thread warnings and decide how a thread is flowing.

Privacy:The vast majority of posters here prefer to do so anonymously. If they haven't made their identity or name widely known on the site themselves, you have no right to do so. Please respect the privacy also of your neighbours who might not use this forum. If you're not willing to say something to them directly, don't say it here. If you are willing to say it to them directly, perhaps think before you post it here anyway - see the sections on Trolling and Abuse.

Please keep in mind also that neighbourly disputes shouldn't be dragged onto the forum. For example, posting about dogs in general using common areas as their toilets or bad parking is okay. Identifying a specific dog or vehicle is not okay. If it's possible to recognise an individual as a result of something like this, we will deal with it.

Any questions or comments, please feel free to send 2011 or myself a private message, don't put comments on moderation into threads, it only serves to further de-rail discussions. Please don't post messages on our profile pages.
