Deveney's off-licence on Rathmines Rd. are selling 24 x 330ml bottles of O'Hara's red ale, O'Hara's blonde (can't remember the exact name of it) and also some other type of beer for €17 each. The beer's expiry date is September 09; it tastes fine. Pretty good I think, if you like your reds.

I'd suspect so. Deveny's offie have sold beer either out of date or soon out of date at discounted prices for over a decade.

Still gets me through the day :P
Yep it's expired; I just posted it as it's not the usual Heineken/Coors/Bud/Guinness/cider etc. that pops up here now and again. That said, didn't know it was a regular thing with Deveney's.

is it even legal to sell out of date beer? does is have a 'use by' date as well as a 'best before' date?

It's absolutely legal, and the beer will still be perfectly fine.

It may be fine as in it won't do you any harm, but in terms of taste, I can confirm that after about 3 months after the bb date, Guinness definitely does not taste good...maybe its different for larger though?

O'Hara's is an Ale and i had a couple which had been gone off by almost a year with no taste difference or side effects. Bargain in my mind

Yes Guinness and most mass prooduced beers will more or less go off on the date exactly.

There's plenty of beers, where the date is only on as a regulation, and some like wine will continue to improve, now I'm not saying O'hara's red will continue to improve but it will most certainly be drinkable.

They've also got some O'Hara's Red in the fridge - 7 33cl bottles for 5 euro. Tastes grand to me.
