    Hi all,

Wondering if you could help me out.
Currently we are in the process of renovating a 150 year old house and we would like to know if we can use spray foam insulation in the house.

We have planned for Kingspan insulation on all floors, walls and roofs but we are willing to use foam as we think it is better

Our house is a old stone walls house with 2 feet thick stone walls. We intend the insulate the house as much as we can and I think foam will allow us to insulate in places that Kingspan sheets cannot reach.
My concerns are if the building needs to be breathable - will sprayfoam work?
Our walls are very think - would this be an issue.

Open cell spray have been recommended.

Now I have talked to one or two spray foam distributors and they have said that spray foam will work no problem - but since they are promoting their own product - I will need a good 2nd opinion.

Also on the cost they have said it was around the same price as kingspan - when you take into account of fitting kingspan boards.

    Hi,

yes I seen that house before but I think he ruined it by putting on external insulatuion and covering up the whole building.
Also with external insulation, he has to heat up the thermal mass on the stone walls before the heat tries to escape. Not as good IMO.

When we insulate from the inside - I know we will loose some space but to have the stone walls feature look from outside is nice.

I have my douths if foam insulation will work for us - due to the building needing to breath and this may cause problem down the line - I have been advised that would not be the case( by self interested parties)

we have renovated a few houses like this . i would not go for the outside insulation .stone is odd some may weep even in summer .

you should be able to tell if your stone is porous ,granite sandstone are bad limestone is not to bad .
dranage around the house is also very important .
