iPhone - Terrible O2 coverage and battery life.

I have a 3G iPhone for about a year now. The battery life is just getting worse and worse now. It barely lasts the day now. I have stuff like Location, Wifi and 3G turned off, so that isn't the problem. Coverage is also brutal, but that's more to do with my location I suppose. Apart from the Apps, I have been very disappointed by the iPhone. The limited Bluetooth is a real pain in the ass, no zoom on the camera, no FM Radio or no stock video recorder. I thought I would get over the iPhones lack of stuff like this that other phones have, but it's just ridiculus. How can a phone be seen as the best when it's missing so many features that come as standard on most other phones at this stage.

However, because I am an Apple devotee I'm wondering if the iPhone 3GS is much better? or how about the Palm Pre?

Well, like you mention, the 3G isn't supposed to be the best. It's not the latest generation iPhone.

To be honest though even the 3GS doesn't address much of your complaints (apart from the video). I certainly wouldn't be upgrading if they were your issues. Fingers crossed the 4G might be a leap ahead this year.

In my opinion Iphone 3GS is very good but you need to be honest with yourself what do you want your phone for. I loved all the apps and touch screen is the best on the marked. But as you pointed out battery life is not that great... and plenty other missing features. I played with mine for a month and then returned it and changed it for Nokia N95.
As business phone i find N95 meets all my requirements. Iphone is really cool phone but i don't think its good for business user.

I use it for Business and find it great. N95 would be well down my list unless I just wanted a half decent camera phone. Nokia have E71/72 QWERTY phones which are decent biz orientated handsets. Battery life is ****e if your a heavy user you need a dock on your desk and an adapter for the car.

I guess it depends on what you need for your business. I travel a lot and reason why i returned Iphone is that its somewhat limited in features that i need. I don’t like travelling with bag full of gadgets and add-ons so it comes handy that phone has GPS with turn-by-turn voice navigation; Bluetooth that is not limited to headsets only; FM radio; 5-megapixel camera, with autofocus and flash; video recording at DVD-quality resolution and framerate; real 3.5mm headphone jack.
I do miss Iphone superior touch screen but that’s about it.
