    Yep, heard that ad too.

Not too shabby.. 10% off makes electronics fairly reasonable in Argos! :D

Just gotta find something mispriced, and then buy it with another 10% off!

€170 for an ipod touch 8gb, with 10% off = €153. Fantastic price.

Sorry, but, Argos shouldn't be in Bargain alerts. Check almost any of their prices here and compare to the UK price. The Uk price for the Ipod for example was €153 anyway (converted from GBP on Xe.com). They hike up the price on nearly ALL products over here. I refuse to buy from them until they start being fair to Irish consumers and come close to matching their UK price. I'll stop here before I go on a rant.

I'm getting tired of this argument. We all know by now that Irish shops are more expensive than their UK counterparts due to differences in the cost base. This is boards.ie in case you've forgotten.

Thanks for you're input T-Maxx...

An Oireachtas report last year found that the difference in cost between NI and ROI should be 6%, excluding the VAT difference. There's currently a difference of 3.5% in VAT, so adding that to the 6% gives 9.5%. There is also an additional shipping cost however this should only account for a tiny percentage.

Argos consistently hike prices way above this difference, compare on their sites. I'm aware that this is an Irish site, thanks for pointing that out, that's why i'm talking about a retailer in Ireland that is taking advantage of Irish customers.

I can only assume so, you also don't buy from Halfords, Next, Debenhams, Oasis, Boots, Dixons, Currys, PC World, Maplins, Play, HMV......?

    nicker_s..

This is not the place for this!

Make a new thread in Rip Off Ireland (http://boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=235) if you want to continue this discussion further.

I bought a bulb in Halfords in November. Don't shop in the rest (not for any price reasons), generally buy off the net (I wouldn't buy off play anyway). The reason I am on about Argos is because I asked them why there was a massive price difference between a particular product, they gave me a really crappy excuse to fob me off. I looked at more items and compared the prices and they were all the same. So whether the others are over pricing here aswell, I don't know, but I know Argos are. I just don't think this fair that they are doing this, thats all. The Ipod is a good price alright.

so the ipod is 10% cheaper up north/uk normally and you then agree that the price difference should be 9.5% cheaper + a small percentage for shipping?

    mayordenis,

Let's not discuss this here please!

Are you sure about that? Is it possible Argos have already reduced the prices? Their prices are already 10% less than apple.ie.

If it is 10% off marked prices then it's an excellent offer, 32gb Itouch would be 249.99 * 0.9 = 225 euro, it's 279 on the apple site! Id nearly be tempted at that price and I don't really even need one.

Anyone know when Argos's weekend starts for this offer? Is it Saturday morning or does it start on Friday?

    Paddy

Yes there appears to be some confusion - I asked in my local branch and they weren't sure what the story is at all. There are no brochures or promotional posters up at all - which is unusual. Yet when I checked the prices of ipods - the 64Gb Touch was €329 which is about 10% cheaper than elsewhere(usually €369) - but the 160Gb Classic was €229 - same as everywhere else.

I'm waiting till tomorrow to see what happens.

Was just on the radio, it runs until Tuesday and ipods are included.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,743 ✭✭✭bluemachaveli

The radio ad just states iPod touch and nano!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,283 ✭✭✭RobertFoster

Do Argos sell any other MP3 players at reasonable prices that 10% off would make it a good deal? Apple stuff seems to stick to its price across all shops, but others vary don't they?

Anyone know if the 10% starts today?

Ive reserved a camera at €x today, it says I have till tomorrow to collect, can I collect tomorrow and pay €x - 10%?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,264 ✭✭✭witnessmenow

I heard a radio ad last night that stated something about "right now"

It also did not seem to specifically say electronics. I did say 10% off ipods and 25% off something else but i dont think the word electronics was mentioned

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,264 ✭✭✭witnessmenow

    Heard the ad again.

"great prices on technology........ 10% off Ipods.... 25% off headphones and speaker Docks... less than €130 for Xbox Arcade"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

I think the prices displayed on the site are the reduced prices unfortunately. I just rang the ring&reserve number and did a stock/price check on a 32gb Ipod touch, it's listing 249.99, same as the website. It also is very clear in saying that this is todays in store price.
Makes sense really, since this is around 10% less than the apple site already.
I wonder if it would be worth getting one in Argos and going with 3year insurance for 50 euro (Alhough not positive it applies to ipods, the terms do mention "personal & portable CD/radio/cassette players")

Has anyone actually been to a store yet?
