Upgrading RAM on a PowerBookG4

Hello. I recently gave my dad my old Powerbook and he loves it, only problem is with 512mb of RAM it's a bit slow. I dropped it a few years ago and since then only one side of the RAM works (when I bought it it had 2x512). I got it fixed at one stage, think they replaced the motherboard. But now only one side is working again. Does this sound like a very expensive thing to fix?

Then, I tried to upgrade the existing 512. I went on to Crucial website and it said the correct RAM for my 2005 PowerBook is 2700 or something. I bought it, and it won't fit. Brought it to a shop that said it's too big, I need 2500. Now, I can't find this anywhere online.

Has anyone else successfully upgrading the RAM on one of these?
    Thanks

Maybe it is just loose. Did you try taking it out and reinserting it?

Yea, well the guy in the shop kept putting it in and out, and no luck. I've given up on that slot now. If I could just get 1GB in the other slot I think it would tick along nicely.
