i guess most clubs nows have introduced the equality ruling. how is it going for you? are the ladies in your club playing along side you in competition at the weekends? how do you feel about this ?
i am interested to hear the male point of view as i have just taken up full membership in my own club..

just interested to see how the equality is settling down that is all,

on the whole we are doing fine .but are having some minor teething problems and have come to the conclusion ( rightly or wrongly ) following discussions with some of the men we play regularly with , that is from men who either dont play mixed or whose wives dont golf ! the take up of ladies on the tee is poor so far , with only lowish handicappers playing on sundays.

some of the threads here dont have a great point IMO... it was a genuine enquiry

Do you mean playing at the weekends in a ladies competition or is the weekend competition open to all (ladies and men competing against each other)?
I tried to get some mixed competitions going in my club where there is a small enough number of ladies but there was no real movement on it. Our mid-week 9 hole competitions in the summer are mixed.

In my experience, the only problem historically, has been lady golfers' slow pace of play, whether real or perceived.

While I think it's probably a fair call in the main, I've no interest in arguing the point. And to be fair, there's plenty of slow playing men out there too. I just think women are more social than men, and as such play golf in a more relaxed fashion. It's also understandable, seeing as how everyone on the Tuesdays of yore would have been on the same wavelength, so when it comes to integrating into Saturdays, and Saturday pace of play, you can see where issues arise.

That said, in my own club it's working very well. There's no pace of play issues at all - so absolutely no problems, thankfully.

we play on the same sheet or indeed on the same line as the men but have a seperate competition on a sunday. i havent heard any complaints re slow play but
i guess the perceived slow rate of some ladies could be down to having as many as 36 shots in some cases !
mixed golf plays a huge part in our club. economically the club needs it. after all competitons there is a meal, where as especially in the mens case, you golf and need to get home. the meal generates income and a social scene. both badly needed at the moment. to get mixed going one idea is to allow players to sgn up as single and then match them nearer the day. a lot of people dont play mixed as they dont have a regular golf partner. also mixed golf brings you to all the hidden unvisited spots of the course ( the ones you never see on ladies day !!!)

Ah yeah, I've seen that kind of social mixed stuff in all it's glory in the likes of Woodbrook. Unbelievably busy midweek, good buzz about the place.

Each to their own but not my cup of tea to be honest.

I can't make a general statement but the women in my club are painful to play behind.

Shrieking Sheet not interested in arguing a point... I've heard it all now :D

Unfortunately female golfer have the tag of being slow players, in some cases its unfair but many other circumstances it is true. For example four 50 something retired social females (sounds like an exaggeration but actually the case with many female members) aren't exactly going to be as quick as four 30 something year old males playing off single figures. Their physical not as able, and I would say more importantly want to relax and enjoy their round instead of like many males (myself included) wanting to get round and in fairly quickly.

In my club males and females play on weekends and there doesn’t seem to be a problem, ladies do seem to have later tee times. Admittedly if I was going out for just a few holes the last group I want to be stuck behind is a ladies fourball!

i know just how you feel. we absolutely dread being stuck behind a 4 ball of old codgers.. :D:D there is no way they will let ladies through not even a 2 or 3 ball.

Have to say as a working person who plays on Sat that the few women who play on that day are without exception speedier than the men - some of our group are single figure handicap, nearly all are less than 19 handicap and all are hyper conscious of being called slow. One day we (3 women) were being held up on every shot by the 3 lads in front (they may have been young and fit - but they were wild off the tee) the group behind us knew where the blame lay but talking afterwards to the group behind them they were naturally blaming the "pink hats"!

Occasionally a brave man plays with us - but I've noticed they don't like being outdriven;)

I have been following this thread with interest waiting to see who would dig the biggest hole for themselves!

Recently my husband and I played behind a 3 ball, all men, with no one in front of them, do you think they'd let us through ha ha took one look at me and decided I was the wrong sex and probably should have been at home doing the dishes! We stuck it out for 9 holes but on the turn the 3 ball managed to turn into a 4 ball and still wouldn't let us through! We played 2 holes behind them then just gave up!!

The following day my husband in a 3 ball, got caught behind 4 ball of ladies who wouldn't let his group through - he understood as has seen the older men never letting ladies through!

During the summer me and 2 ladies were out in our members competition, course was busy and pace of play was good and we kept up with group in front. Meanwhile a man behind us proceeded to hit his driver as soon as he arrived on every tee box no matter where we were on the course. Then made all the hand gestures imaginable while we were putting out.

Eventually on the 16th hole one of my playing partners lost her ball, she had a good card so was worth spending the 5 mins looking for it. We were about to call group behind through when he hit up onto the green. This was witnessed by an ex captain on another tee box who phoned me later saying he had complained on our behalf.

This man is notorious for ignoring ladies on the course, hitting drives anyway or shots to green.

My own experience, most men let me though, some don't but imo they're just ignorant. I hate anyone hitting up on top of me through bad manners or what and if free in front will gladly let them through just to get rid of them.

My preference is always to play with men, though not wild hitters or the guys who are convinced they can hit 300 yds when they're playing off 20+ and just delay everything! Yes some ladies can be very chatty on tee boxes, but guys can be slow in other ways rem 5 min rule when looking for ball, and to please call whoever is behind you through while you search!

We are all in a hurry to get off the course, maybe lads its for you to get home and help or for us to enjoy a glass or two in the clubhouse!

    Rant over

for 6 months all players were timed. you marked your tee off time and signed off when you completed the round.. almost afraid to say but the general mgt comm had a problem with the mens timings , not the ladies !

seriously i didnt mean for this thread to develop into a men v women timing issue, as i ve said i was just interested in how competitions at the weekned were working out !

down the middle .. what is trolling ?

I love playing behind them, alllll day to admire that stunning view, mmm mmmmm;)

Nah seriously, I always find playing behind them fine, they keep up with pace of play and if I'm in a two or three ball and they are in a fourball they always let me through.
Then again I am very handsome:rolleyes:

Sure they usually can't hit a ball far enough to lose it so there's never really any delays.
