    i have a lampshade that can only take energy saving light bulbs up to 20w


    However would a dimmable 40w light bulb work?

    it would not be suitable/safe, you should stick to the rating of the fitting, are you finding it difficult to find a suitable lamp? if so just ask and we'll point you in the right direction.

    Yes where can you get really dim energy saving screw in lightbulbs. The lowest I found is 11 watts
