The time has come to replace my graphite shaft Howson DJ200s, which have served me well for over 10 years, but to be honest I'm a bit out of touch with the today's market and would appreciate what recommendations you have.

I play off 11, am a long hitter, with a high ball flight. I'm willing to pay up to say €400, so that limits things I'm sure. I've been told with my swing I should be going for steel shafts, which cost a bit more (or is it less??!!).

I know the only way to know is to go and check out the feel of a few sets, but I'd like an idea of what would be a good deal?

    Thanks

I bought a set of Wilson Staff Pi7's for 200 quid  gorgeous, classic looking clubs, I couldn't recommend Wilson Staff's stuff enough.

Steel shafts generally cost less than graphite.and since you have a high clubhead speed you'll want stiff shafts.Have you considered being fitted?really is worth a few extra quid.

Thanks for that. Yeah I was thinking of getting fitted, there is a local guy here who does it, might pay him a visit this week.

I would recommend TaylorMade Burner 09s. I got a set before Christmas and love them.
