    Help!!!!...

New ceramic Hob.... Less than a week installed...

Tefal Frying Pan (Hot Spot) has left a dreadful mark on the ceramic.... Can anyone offer advice on getting rid of the mark, or is the hob ruined????....

Would appreciate any information, or advice other Boardsies can offer...

    Thanks everyone...

    Darth...

What kind of mark? What was the pan used on before you got the new hob? If it was gas, there's a possibility the pan has sagged in the middle a little, and so won't sit 100% flat on the ceramic hob.

I've given up on forged aluminium pans like Tefal since I got my ceramic hob, and have now got a Woll pan (http://www.woll-cookware.com/mediathek/defaultScripts/PHP/index.php?c=/export/English/doc/16.html&sn=NAV_3_S&img1=412.gif&sel=2&lang=4) that's machined out of a piece of cast aluminium which is as rigid as hell and won't bulge. Not cheap though.

    Hi Alun....

Thanks for your reply, and I'll certainly look at that pan...

The Tefal pan had been used on an electric four ring cooker!.... The mark is circular, around the inner edge of the plate the pan was on... It's hard to describe what the mark looks like... Erm, it's shiney, has a rainbow like hue... Afraid that's about as good as my descriptive abilities go.... I'm SO miffed!... Brand new, and badly marked!....

Hope I can get it off, but I doubt it.... It's not a raised mark, it's almost like there's a change in the plate... Does that make sense???....

    Thanks again....

Strange. Almost sounds like a chemical reaction of some sort .. was there any kind of protective coating on the hob when you got it, or any mention of treating it any differently the first time you used it in the instructions that came with it?

BTW If you're thinking of trying to clean it, be careful and don't use anything too abrasive. You can get a special ceramic hob cleaner cream that contains a very mild abrasive specially made for cleaning them.

    No Alun....

    No coating, No special instructions....

I'll certainly get some of that hob cleaner and give it a go....

Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to reply... Your advice is much appreciated!....

    God bless...

this happens a lot with hobs ,its caused by the heat against the glass hob (the hobs not ceramic) normally you see it on powerpoint, belling and some that say ceran in the top corner (chinese made) -nothing you can do -

    what make is yours ?

Well, the material they're made from isn't normal glass but glass that's treated in a way that gives it much of the properties of a ceramic material hence the name.

Mine's a Ceran hob and I haven't experienced the kinds of problems outlined by the OP. It gets dirty, usually around where the edge of the pan is, but it's a brown ring, easily removed using normal ceramic hob cleaner and I'm guessing is a result of small amounts of oil/fat that's burnt on.

Knighted.... You're spot on... It's a Belling.... Bought that brand because it said 'Irish Made'on the store label... Thinking of jobs in the Irish economy, etc...

Grrrrrr!!!!.... I'm SO annoyed with myself!....

Oh well, it's done now.... As my mum says, just leave a saucepan on it... Nobody will ever know.... Erm, I know!....

Thanks for your advice, Folks... And thanks for taking the time to help....

    God bless...

    Darth...

Update.... Tried the hob cleaner and the scraper... It's come up perfectly!.... Phew!... Must have been some oil on the outside of the pan, and it cooked!.... I'm VERY glad, and very much appreciate all your help.... Thank you all SO much....
