As im away for last while I kind left behind when it comes to upcoming players playing for Cork at present.

I hear a few being mentioned in football. Is there any good prospects coming through in the Hurling? By God we need some.

Never actaully seen Cussen play for Hurlers will be looking forward to it. We could do with player who can score goals.

A buddy of mine saw him play in a club game a few weeks back and said he was very handy.

Denis Walsh was talking last week of using Cussan and Aisake in a twin towers type approach - the two of them are 6' 7. On paper that would be very difficult for any defender. Midfield would have to be getting good ball into them.

I'm working so cant go to this one :(

Yes, although it depends if Walsh gives them a go. Two very good young fellows that I rate highly are Luke O'Farrell and Eoin Keane, but they haven't been given much a chance pre-season, possibly because of their youth and/or college commitments.

Realistically, and going beyond established squad players like Naughton, I expect William Egan, David Cunningham, Darragh Rodgers, Mark O'Sullivan, Cian McCarthy, Michael Cussen and Aidan Ryan to get runs to different extens throughout the league. Of that lot, only a few really have the potential of being inter county players - Egan, McCarthy and Cussen, the others are borderline bar Ryan who isn't up to inter-county level.

I'd have to agree with you there, Rodgers didn't look up to it against UCC but then again he is young, seems to be a better full back from I've seen of him with the club and division......there certainly a lack of 'star' quality coming through but the optimist in me sees a bright summer of hurling for Cork this year!

    Fingers crossed!

Could be very effective with the re-jigged square ball rules .

    Cork Team vs Offaly:

    Donal Og

Shane Murphy David Cunningham Shane O'Neill

Brian Murphy Ronan Curran Sean Og

    Tom Kenny John Gardiner

Niall McCarthy Mark O'Sullivan Lorcan McLoughlin

Fraggie Murphy Aisake O'hailpin Pa Horgan

    Subs:

    16. Martin Coleman (Ballinhassig)

    17. Eoin Cadogan (Douglas)

    18. Kevin Hartnett (Russell Rovers)

    19. Ray Ryan (Sarsfields)

    20. Aidan Ryan (Midleton)

    21. Cian McCarthy (Sarsfields)

    22. Graham Callanan (Glen Rovers)

    23. Michael Cussen (Sarsfields)

    24. Fintan O'Leary (Ballinhassig)

I really hope Shane O'Neill and Brian switch at throw in. Center forward line is weak, hopefully Mark O'Sullivan has a good game, everything else is pretty fine, even though I don't think Gardiner is a midfielder (he'll do fine against the likes of Offaly at this time of the year), and would like us to look at someone other then Curran at 6.

Bench is pretty weak as well, no Egan or O'Farrell for example, but I'm assuming they'll be a few unlisted on Sunday.

    Anyone have the Offaly team?

    Cork 1-22 Offaly 1-11 FT.

Good win - a few points:

    - Donal Og, good as ever, some nice precise puck-outs as well.

    - Shane Murphy and Shane O'Neill generally very good, as was Cadogan when he came on. Cunningham subbed at half time, didn't strike one as the kind of dominant figure we need around the box and was hesistant the few times the ball was around him.

    - Center back line, very mixed. Brian Murphy was fine, but it makes little sense to have one of the best corner backs in the country at wing back and one of your most skillful, energetic hurlers wasting away in the corner. Simple switch please. Sean Og and Curran played well in parts, particularly the latter in the second half, but far from marquee performances. I'd still like us to try someone new at center back, Cadogan for example.

    - Midfield, very good, particularly Gardiner, who played a load of ball and was one of Cork's best players. On the other hand, against a big team like Offaly in heavy conditions in February you'd expect a big lad like Gardiner to excel. I'd still worry about his mobility in this position in August.

    - Center forward line - all replaced, some good things in patches. Niall Mac got two lovely points (didn't do much else really), Lorcan McLoughlin looked alright when he got the ball, he certainly has the skill at this level but struggled to get himself involved in the game enough, Mark O'Sullivan caught some good ball but didn't know what to do with it, looked too slow both in the hands and legs at this level but he has a incredible hand, so probably worth giving a few more chances to. Got one great point if I remember correctly.

    - Full forward line was our best line by far imo. Fraggie and Pa Horgan were absolutely flying, two truly talented and classy players putting the ball over the bar from every part of the pitch, well worth the price of attendance alone. Aisake was poor, despite the goal - his first instinct always seems to be to get a foul, or give a handpass, when he did run at the defence his swing is far too wild. Not great in the air. Had a couple of cracks at points but went well wide. Should have done more with the decent amount of ball he got.

    - Subs, Cussen and Cadogan were very good, the former got a great point and was nice and tidy at wing forward. Cian McCarthy, Ray Ryan and Fintan O'Leary didn't have much to do.

    - Shane Murphy, John Gardiner, Pa Horgan and Fraggie Murphy best for Cork. Molloy and Mahon were decent for Offaly, a team badly lacking natural pace, amongst other things.

    - The bench worries me really. We need to have a competitive squad - with respect, I don't think Cadogan is going to be worried about Cunningham, nor Curran worried about Aidan Ryan etc. We need players looking over their shoulders, something we haven't had in years, and frankly, unless we make significant changes to the bench, we won't have it this year either. Cussen is really the only 'impact' player there - personally, I'd prefer to see the likes of Eoin Keane, Luke O'Farrell, Chris Murphy and William Egan in the squad at the expense of Hartnett, Aidan Ryan, Callanan etc.

    - Pitch was heavy and cut up in parts, some very poor picking of the ball throughout the game because of this, lot of one handed crap as well which didn't help. Lots of little flicking from Cork players, nothing wrong with some more emphasis on ground hurling.

Good win for Cork and by the radio the new players had good games. Impressive display by Patrick Horgan scoring 9 points.
