I'm looking to get my wife a netbook this week - I have an idea of the spec, but there is so much choice out there, I'm not really any the wiser.

    Budget: up to €350

Intended use: Casual use - browsing / email / iTunes

Mobility: - 10.1" screen is about the right size.

Warranty: Is a warranty important? Not really.

What Operating System do you use? I'd prefer Windows 7 to get the most out of the hardware.

    Other specs:
Wireless access / ~160GB HDD / integrated webcam / USB ports / 1GB RAM should be fine with Windows 7, but I suppose upgradeable to 2GB would be good?

    Here are some I've found:
    HP Mini 110-1115SA

    Acer Aspire One D250

    Asus 1005HA

    Toshiba NB200-12R

Any help is much appreciated :)

Anything but Samsung, a number of us have had trouble with BSOD on boot up. They do not come with a Windows installation disk, only a non bootable CD with drivers. I had an Asus 1000 before I got the Samsung N140 and I am now sorry I got rid of it.

    Thanks Run_to_da_hills, that's a good start.

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 seems to get good reviews as well, but the Asus 1000 seems like a good option to look at.

Try get something with the longer battery life, the only thing good going for the Samsung N140 is its 9 hour battery.

Thanks again - the ASUS 1005 looks like a good option so far.

Edit - went for the Asus after all, thanks for your help :)
