    Hi all,

Apologies if this isn't the first time this thread has been made (I couldn't see it on the first or second pages) but I was wondering what some of your favourite LGBT films are?

For me my top 3 LGBT films of all time have to be:

    1. C.R.A.Z.Y.
    2. Sommersturm
    3. Breakfast on Pluto

    So what about you?

    Mysterious Skin
    La mala educación
    Philadelphia
    The Matthew Shepard Story
    Prayers for Bobby

None of these films are particularly happy. Infact most are disturbing on some level.

    C.R.A.Z.Y.
    The Broken Hearts Club
Happy Together is quite good also.

And I must say, I did enjoy Another Gay Movie, though not so much its sequel.

    But I'm a cheerleader
    Transamerica

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Trying not to mention those already mentioned here, most of which I really enjoyed...

The King and the Clown - an amazing Korean movie, there's actually no blatant homosexuality in it but rather a much more subtle portrayal of love... One of my favourite films of all time.

Latter Days - Another touching story, more sexual and in a modern setting.

Lost and Delirious - probably not as good as the other two, but still worth a watch... but everyone had already name most of my favourite ones :p

    Goldfish Memory
    Loving Annabelle
    Latter Days
Lost and Delirious (bit OTT at end, but still...)
    Velvet Goldmine
    D.E.B.S. (ridiculously fluffy 'n' cute)
    Milk

    I also forgot "Latter Days".

"Were the World Mine" is absolutely beautiful as well.

Brokeback Mountain is one of the 3 films I've ever cried at in my life. *sniff*

    Milk was just brilliant.

And, Bound. Any one who's seen it will know why ;)

OT, but has anyone seen Better than Chocolate? What a load of rubbish. I wouldn't mind if it'd been something I came across myself but it was actually recommended on various occasions. God awful

Stark, I still don't understand. How is Monsters Inc a LGBT related movie? Unless there are some weird gay undertones between Mike and Sully I didn't get!

The Birdcage is good too, if only to see th eexcellent Robin Williams and Nathan Lane trying to outcamp eachother, and who could resist laughing at Gene Hackman in make-up and heels?! :D

A joke. Continuing on the theme of movies with "Monster" in the title.

No for me it is the scene where they are all listening intently to Hackman describe the drive down through the states, discussing the changing colour of the foliage! :D

Small Town Gay Bar is a pretty cool little documentary i happened to catch late at night on rte a couple months ago

    Boys Don't Cry
    The Matthew Shepherd Story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,068 ✭✭✭Bodhisopha

I'm not an L, B, G or a T but one of my fave directors, Pedro Almodovar, movies tend to be about L, B, G's or T's.

Really good movies, but i know how some people can't stand subtitles.

    Volver
    All about my mother
    Live Flesh
    Bad Education etc..

    To name but a few.

Long before Ang Lee did Brokeback he directed a really lovely movie called The Wedding Banquet. Watch it if you get the chance.

That's a beautiful film. Another "art house" film that I positively adored was Fire which I saw at the Gay Games in Amsterdam many years ago.

    In order of Preference

Broken Hearts Club: Mainly as real cute actors most of whom you would have seen before - the guy who played Superman in the TV series and another was a regular in Seventh Heaven)

    Shelter - Favourite storyline wise!
Latter Days - Like the story, guys are cute too.
Beautiful Thing - UK spin and kinda nice to see young love.

Worthy of the thread but in a weird sense its not exactly the "gay movie" you might expect.

It seems to be kinda more lost romance - where as some of the other gay movies are (IMHO) designed to tug at the heartstrings of the single gay guy???

Still well worth watching - if only for Nicholas Hoults cheesy chatup lines!
