Rent Allowance

I am sure there are a million threads on this and I have read the stuff on the social welfare website but I really can't make any sense of it.

I am facing a redundancy situation soon and I need to work out what I am entitled too.

I am a single female renting a room in an owner occupied apartment, the rent has been agreed by myself and my landlord although if we needed to go to tribunal to get the rent changed I don't see him having a problem with that. I have been working full time for nearly 5 years straight so by the time I finish up I will have the required stamps.

Can anyone let me know what my options are if I need to apply for rent allowance?

Rent Supplement is a means-tested payment, for those who cannot afford accomodation from their own means.

Ah ok so I may be entitled to a rent supplement but not to rent allowance, these are different things then. Ok thank you that make alot more sense.

rent supplement is the same thing as rent allowance, its just a new name. Check out that website, then get down to your local community welfare officer. good luck.
