Safe to go to Iraq

    Hi Everyone,

    My name is Des, my wife's name is Ruth, we have created a joint account on boards recently and are really enjoying it so far. Anyway, we are just back from a fairly exotic safari holiday in Botswana with our son Finton and Daughter Delia.
    We had such a ball there that we now want to go somewhere else exciting. My friend Eddy suggested Iraq. Ruth and I looked in shock at each other at the mention of it but then we slowly started questioning our initial fears of Iraq being a no-go area for a family holiday.
    Can any of you guys give any reasons not to go for a two week break there? and if you give us the go ahead can you suggest any must see sites?

    We thought we would ask this forum as there may be Iraqi's present, thanks in advance

    Why would you put Finton and Delia through such an ordeal? Iraq is currently going through a civil war. You must be insane to want to go there.

    I believe the fireworks displays at night are great but maybe consider Afghanistan for even better fun. and you may even end up in a field hospital with no legs. leave the kids at home and get a grip!

    You mean "gillyfromlyre" who posted a couple of years back to say you had already been?
