Mentioned this in the politics section but its an interesting story so I thought I'd pass it long to see what ye think.
Are the Taliban between one thing (current big ongoing battle) and another finally being forced into an eventual negotiated retreat?

Secret Joint Raid Captures Taliban’s Top Commander

New York Times Story just out.
WASHINGTON — The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Mullah Baradar has been in Pakistani custody for several days, with American and Pakistani intelligence officials both taking part in interrogations, according to the officials.

    More here:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/16/world/asia/16intel.html?hp

The article goes on to credit the Pakistan intelligence services - but there's no doubt that the American agencies/special ops' probably did the actual infiltrating and grabbing.
The accreditation going to the Pakistan is likely a political manoeuvring to some extent seeing as the American presence is still a form of contention and a method used by the Taliban to stir support.
So the Americans while making it look like they are separate from the Pakistan agencies and are distant agencies - probably in fact work together quite closely.

...and ps: your hearing about it before tabloid "Sky news" reports it.
    One up for us! :D

That's what Makikomi ment last night when he said he was drifiting back into the shadows :D

What effect will this have though? Surely he has a 2nd in command that knows all, or at least most, of his diabolical and devious plans.

If he was going to hide out it probably would have been easier in Derailed!

One up for us. You kill the end of level boss and you get an extra life.
If, however, you decide to join him in his evil schemes you go back three levels.
Kuwait might be safe for another few days at least.

-->As many as the US government can find.. Because if they say they are a boss, they ARE a boss.
-->As Many as they can cram into Guantanamo
->As many as it takes, they find one whenever they need a propaganda boost

    Oh Shi...

There are a finite and calculated number of Taliban commanders that I am sure are under constant surveillance based on very reliable intelligence.
Thank god we have the amazing American government to look after us all by policing the planet..

    Semper fidels
    Yours sincerely

Boards' man in Karachi was a little slow in filing the story so we had to settle for seconds. We still pipped Murdoch though.

On the other hand, the Taliban have probably got a few new volunteers since some careless twats killed a few civilians in the latest big push in Afghanistan.
