Bought a Wii a few weekends ago.. am using the standard composite cables with a scart adapter but am gonna buy the official scart cable for better picture.

I've seen a few third party ones on Amazon / DealExtreme. Are the third-party cables sufficient or should I buy the official one?

    Thanks in advance!

Composite gives a much better picture, go for them first. Scart however isn't that bad either. You are better off going for a third party scart or composite cable. I've found the official nintendo ones to be badly shielded and not give as good a picture. For the same price or less you can get a good third party cable with gold connectors that will do a much better job.

Composite gets my vote, too, got one recently it makes the picture way better. 480p I believe which is a little better than standard. A must for Call Of Duty Reflex !

    Cheers evolutionqy7.

Will check my TV later and see if it's got a component connection.

yeah, i though composite was the 3 , red, white and yellow, all analogue and component (5 cables) was a bit better, red, green blue for video and red+ white for audio

i got one of the component cables to connect the wii through the new denon AV amp, sett the wii settings to 480P and adjustted the stting son the denon, picture is so much clearer now. full 7.1 audio is very cool too. HD is the job

    Rember kids:

Composite connections have compost in its name for a reason, they are mostly sh1te!

Mostly? They are all total shite. I have a vendetta against them and slowed down PAL games :P

    I am confused now.

I just ordered the cable from evolutionqy7's seller on Ebay.

"HDTV Component 480p Cable for Nintendo Wii"

Is that the right cable or no?:o

Connections for Wii ranked (in order of decentness)

    1. Component (5 wires Red,blue, green, red and white - Only found on HDTVs)

    2. Scart

    sku_21910_1.jpg

    3. Composite - (Red white and yellow putting it into a scart adapter doesnt make it any better)

    sku_24298_1.jpg
The 4th wire in this picture is s-video, a connection that is alot more common in the US afaik

i swear :) i ordered it on sunday when i got my grant put through and got it the following week...yes i know most items from hong kong travel for light years but this one got sent out quick...i won 1 wii remote + nunchuk for a tenner on ebay and another one from diff seller the next day...one arrived same week the next one arrived at the end of 2nd week...some of them are real slow...guess i was just lucky :) one of the remotes wasnt workin properly cause one of the joints for battery was bent in and the fella said to send it back and he even will pay for the postage back :) thats service :)
i do always admire the way chinese treat their customers :) as my management lecturer always asks us what do chinese call a customer? an honoured guest
...how many times u felt like that in an Irish Shop? ull be lucky if u get a hello :) they rip u off and kick u out the door :)

oh and composite cable is right...thats the one i got for my Wii :) picture is much better...i looked first at the official one but didnt really see no difference...and again under 4 quid + free P&P ...cant go wrong...
