Would anybody have any recommendation for a relationship counsellor anywhere in Dublin?

Money is very tight at present, but will have to be found for this now quite urgent issue. If you have any idea of the cost, that would be very useful.

    Thank you.

    Hi there,

I would recommend ringing Accord and organising an appointment. They are based in several locations, and are among the best trained.. They also work on a donation basis, so you just donate as much or as little as you can afford.

    Best of luck.

Thank you so much, the glass woman. We are both Catholic but one of the issues is that I'm not particularly keen on bringing our kids up Catholic. I wonder would the ACCORD counsellors be OK with that, it being a 'Catholic Marriage Care Service'?

    Hi OP

    I would also recommend Accord.

I needed urgent relationship counselling in 2008, and although they have a small waiting list (at least in Dublin) after I explained the issue we were given an appointment straight away and met with them weekly following this.

The cost was a donation in an envelope - posted in a box, so no one ever knew who paid what.

I can't recommend them enough. PM if you have any questions.

    Best of luck!

    OP don't worry.

Accord counsellors are trained to deal with all issues, including couples who have different religious backgrounds, who have inter-married (if that is the correct description?)

They themselves will not recommend anything (or side with the individual who wishes for the children to be raised catholic)- they offer only to listen, and to encourage you as a couple to make a decision.

    Hope this helps

Thank you both so much. I just rang them and they can fit us in this evening which is really brilliant. Thanks again.

I went to them about 6 years ago. My husband wanted kids, I didn't. Both him and the counsellor spent the entire session picking apart my reasons. I felt bullied and alienated by the whole process. The counsellor appeared to be a staunch catholic and would not entertain my feelings at all. And instead kept getting me to give her reasons on why I should have children and would then dismiss them and argue them. To be fair that was just my experience and hopefully was an exception.
We divorced (for the best) as we could not agree. We were young when we married and never really discussed the whole children thing, just thought it would happen. Hindsight it great. Just be concious if the advice seems biased and don't be afraid to say something (I was)
