Hi people So i wanna take up a MA , comes from years of watching boxing and a boxing tradition in my family , obviously i could join a boxing club but i would rather try my hand at a MA , am i deluded ?

So story goes , im 27 , ever so slightly over weight , and seriously unfit , But am willing to put effort into every training session , and for lack of technical skill and control on temper id like to think im fairly tough in regard to not quitting till the jobs done. As per reviewing this section many times over , ive desided that bridgestone muay thai is the club for me , its close , seems that there is nice people there willing to help and as a striking MA (i think) i could use some knowledge ive think ive gained , and as an avid cyclist i hope my leg power could be coached.

Ive no intention to compete , but rather gain a level of fitness and give myself a staple routine , if it comes to pass that i could sparr i would be happy to do so and just wanna be thought and learn new things each day im there.

Reason im writing this is , i hopeing to go there later today and am honestly im very nervous , i know theres beginners at every club but that fact doesnt help me , yes we all start somewhere and all want to learn , but am i mad taking this up at 27 ?

I just want to know before i walk in and make a fool of myself , will i be accepted as a beginner and be allowed the time to learn without the alpha male attitude ? any feedback helps

A club would not run without beginners so they would be happy to have you and you will be looked after, clubs such as bridgestone wont allow any messing about, get down and enjoy it..

    +1

    What Paul just said.

Plus, that feeling of walking as a total newbie into the gym only happens once!.

You'll be surprised at how quickly the lads in any club will except new cannon fodder members.

As for not wishing to compete, I hear this all the time and all I'll say is that in my experience once you feel your abilities, fitness and appreciation of your style you'll be iching to put those new found skills to the test, and there's no better place to pressure test yourself than on the mat or in the ring.

I've never been to Bridgestone but I hear their a brilliant bunch of people down there.

Head in. Nothing to worry about. :) There are no egos in Bridgestone. Maybe let the instructor on tonight (it'll be Paul) know that it's your first night. Other than that you'll be grand.

Let us know how you get on.
