Just wondering if anyone knows if it is easy to get the interview date you request on application, or is it likely they will give you a random date of their choosing? Thanks in advance.

As far as I can remember, J-1 visa interviews are only held on Wednesdays and with all the applications going through, you get the first available one, if you cancel it or try change it you might have issues getting another one or they might question your actions at the embassy.

However, if you're applying early enough you can ask the visa company to get you in on a date far in the future which may have available slots. Your best bet is to just take the date given or ask the visa company. I'm sure if there's a specific date you can't go, if you tell them before hand they will more than likely try to avoid that date.
