    Hi folks,
    After going through all the options, I've decided that the hormonal coil is the best contraceptive choice for me. However, I'm a bit worried as regards the price... I've come across a few websites with vastly differing prices but most of them were foreign websites based in the US and UK. Could anyone tell me the ballpark figure for it? Obviously doctors fees etc vary so not looking for anything definitive, just to get an idea!

    Thanks very much.

    Drs fees for inserting them vary but you will have to pay for the drs consult beforehand where you will get a prescription and then pay to fill the prescription, then the fee for having it fitted and then the 6 week check up consult.

    If you are a student how much your college dr will be able to do for you for free you will have to check with them.

    The cost of the fitting session can be around 200 euros.

    The cost of filling the prescription for the IUS and any pain meds should fall under the Drugs Payment Scheme which means you have to pay a maximum of €120 a month on prescriptions if you are signed up for it.

    The well woman center has their costs listed as.

    http://www.wellwomancentre.ie/index.php?p=services

    Mirena

    * Initial Consultation €55.00
    * Mirena (fitting only) €180.00
    * Check up within 3 months Free of charge

    Which totals to 235 and then120 for the prescription so that is in all 355 euro, for 5 years of contraception.

    Again as you are a student check with your college dr.

    The coil can be anything from 90 - 150, maybe even more, depending on the brand... plus your GPs appointment...

    Worth it when you think of the amount of money you'd spend on contraception within those 5 years the Mirena lasts....
