Neff Microwave

    Hey all,

We have a Neff Microwave, built in Job 500mm unit. It has been a good unit, but I can't say it has done anything amazing since we've bought it other than reheat some food, and baby's bottles!

The other day it started having a problem, it works for 20 secs (at least looks like its working) and then it just shuts down. The turntable spins and light comes on, I tried a little water and its not heating.

I couldnt believe it when I was told it would cost €500 ish to replace! I block bought 7 years ago and I dont recal it being that price..

I'm determined to fix it, anyone know this fault? Also I have fixed may appliance's but is it advisable to go at a microwave?

Microwaves are tricky to fix and after repair often leak so replacement is probably the best option, you should be able to find a replacement for about $350 at most oh and make sure you leave the door closed as microwaves turn off if opened

Microwaves are not tricky to fix if the engineer knows what he is doing. Microwaves dont leak after they are repaired. No body should attempt to fix a microwave if they are nit trained due to the high voltage. It sounds like the magnetron is faulty, is the fuse in the plug blowing? PM me if you want me to take a look at it for you.

    This is untrue

why do you say that? I have been fixing these for 15 years. There is more radiation from a tv then a microwave, fact. i have never come across a microwave that has leaked

    Hi guys

thanks for the advice, I have a feeling its the Magnatron and no not getting any fuses blowing.

Your correct in warning against working with high voltages, anyone not trained shouldn't go near anything with it.

Im an engineer by trade and work on equipment of varying complexity and therefore have received training on such.

i just hate throwing stuff like this out if its a swap in swap out part which I guess it should be fixable.. but as you said I wouldn't want leaks.

Im in Mayo so can be hard to get anything to a repair shop here,, I'll send you a PM on it sure anyway..

well if eating microwaved food can cause cancer imagine what the microwaves would cause directly, they are very dangerous, a broken microwave should be replaced not repaired its not worth the risk

Me too. Runs for about 10s and stops (maybe due to failed magnetron as you say). A quick check shows this microwave costs around €500 :(
A quick check of http://www.neff-eshop.com/eshop/neff/ie/prodp.htm?prod=H5642S0GB/02 says that a replacement magnetron is €180,
and the power module €250. Very expensive :(

If you don't want to spend that much to get it repaired you can get an excellent Nordmende one for 199

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 Kitchens

Nordmende don't do a 500mm built in microwave, only 600mm.

You can get a new 500mm Neff H53W50NO online for €369.

Sorry, didn't realise it was the 500.
