Hi. A friend recently recorded some music for me on a VSI160. I would like to adjust a few things on the recording. I have the data back-up on cd. Is there any programme that is compatible with these files. I have access to Pro-Tools and/or cubase.
    Thanks in advance

I'm guessing you're talking about one of the Roland machines? If so, find out the exact model number ( VS-1680 perhaps) and look here:

There are several ways to do what you want, depending on the model.

It is indeed the Roland VS-1680. i got my numbers wrong in the title. My problem is that I can't even get my computer to recognise the disc!

Right, well look on that forum. It can be done. However, I suspect that the disc might be damaged? Or do you mean that you cannot hear the audio?

AFAIK the computer should "see" this disc, and you should be able to look at its contents. You won't be able to convert the audio to Pro Tools or WHY without following the advice on that forum though.

The disc must be damaged. The computer is not seeing any contents, how depressing!
Ah well, back to the drawing board with this one. Thanks anyway for the advice madtheory

Might be a long shot but its worked for me in the past, make a copy of the disc and if it makes it through the burn process ok then you might be able to open the copied disc. Worth a try.

+1. further to this, some CD drives are more forgiving than others so maybe try the copy process on a few computers if at first you don't succeed, unless of course there's a huge f-off scratch on the disc.

Glad I said AFAIK, coz I was wrong! Read the instructions here, you have to download a disc ripper program and do some DOS prompt typing to get files from the disc first. It doesn't show up like a normal CD.

Audacity will convert nearly all the types of files. And it's free!

It doesn't support the Roland file formats...

Thank you so much madtheory. That worked a treat. It was worth melting my head reading the instructions! If there was a bunch of flowers and box of chocolates smilie I'd send it to you! :)
