SIMI Warranty

    I'll keep this short.

Friends daughter bought an 04 Yaris in October with an SIMI registered dealer (not Toyota). Car has given her nothing but grief.

Engine was replaced at the end of Jan supposedly with a new one, it's not, it's only reconditioned, since then new plugs, leads and a new coil. Takes the dealer ages to get around to doing anything and he has fobbed her off with plenty of excuses in the meantime on the basis that she knows nothing about cars. She didn't - but now she does ;).

3 month warranty is now up and the engine warning light is on again. She's at the end of her tether, asked me to go talk to him tomorrow.

    Questions:
    1. What rights/chances does she have to get her cash back (€3500) obviously minus a couple of months use.
    2. I presume the warranty on the engine is at least 3 months from when it was put in?
    3. If he doesn't help tomorrow what complaints procedure is there to follow? I presume the SIMI have a system, how useful is it.

Sorry, this just came up and I don't have too much time to research it tonight so I thought I'd throw it up here and see what happens.

    Thanks for any replies.;)

Well engine warning light is a management light. I doubt there is anything wrong with the engine itself. You coulld not have expected a new engine to be fitted to a car of this age & value.

SHe should have really got an engineer involved earlier. THe warranty is now up. It will be getting harder & harder to get anywhere with the dealer now.
Perhaps there is very little wrong with the car now that a proper garge couldnt sort. Maybe this dealer is not too hot on diagnostics etc

i bought my new toyota yaris from a toyota garage in clare. 07 car. water pump has caused my engine to seize, i now know it is a major fault in all toyota yaris, by reading about it on the internet. their is only a three year warrenty on them, do toyota not trust their parts to last longer than 3 years. all the new toyota cars are designed very badly, not like the old reliable ones. also their is no temperature gauge visible, this is a very bad design fault, how do you know your car is overheating. i am going back to toyota ireland, and see what they are going to do, called cs in dublin the other day, and their customer service is not exactly on the customer side. i will never buy a toyota car again
