How do I get Garda Records changed?

Does anyone know the procedure to have information / data that is held on the Garda system changed or deleted? If there is information held on the system following a malicious and unfounded complaint that led to no action being taken by the Garda or DPP how do you go about having that information removed from the records.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

No, all information placed on the Garda PULSE computer system is there to stay. It cannot be deleted at a local level. Maybe a letter to Garda HQ might help......but I have never heard of info being deleted.

The Data Protection Commissioner should be able to advise you . It is important though to remember that Garda and other ' security ' information enjoy certain exemptions from the Data Protection Act.
Contact the Commissioner ( data protection and not Garda ! )

what happens if another false allegation is made against you, and u want to take a civil action against the person.. You.ll be looking for the garda records then to back up your claim

your solicitor could apply for copies of statements etc from the investigation. you might consider calling the garda as a witness. that information wont be on the computer anyway

All fine, as long as the solicitor knows the exact date, and which garda was dealing with the incident.

unless you keep a record of which guard you were dealing with.. it mightnt be that easy to find out.
Gardai transfer to different stn's/areas/units.

and the amount of times i have messages left for me, simply giving someones name, and number and the message saying "sur .. he's knows what its about"

And i wouldn't have a bulls notion who or what they want till i talk to them..

Just because an incident happens to a single person and is memorable' to them, its not gonna stand out in the guards mind forever, That's why we have notebooks to aid our memory.
