Hi played a game in a friends house the other day and was wondering if this is the norm, there were 5 people and we started off with only 16 chips with blinds starting at 25-50.

    1-1000
    4-500
    3-100
    8-25

    thanks, crash

There's no real standard in the amount of chips you receive in a home game. If you want a quick game you want small chips with fast blinds.

3500 chips and 10 minute blinds should see the game over within an hour. Starting with between 5000 - 10000 chips with say 15 minute blinds should see a better quality game.

There is no point bothering with a 10k stack if you are using 15 min blinds.

OP a stack of between 3k and 6k is fine, control the amount of play by having blinds between 10 and 30 mins.
25/50 is the most common start level

    This.

You can also start off with 25/25 if you want to encourage a little bit of action for the first level.

I think for a 2 hour game, a 30K starting stack and blinds every 20 mins is a decent game. However when it gets shorthanded and you want more than one game that evening you may consider making the level 10 mins when you're down to 3 players, otherwise the ones that busted out will be bored.

You can also offer a rebuy for the last game of the evening to keep the action going into the wee hours!

Was just really wondering if 16 chips is the norm to start off with? felt very small and alot of people were asking for change early on cos of lack of hundreds.

Well it's a bit silly. Should have left out the 1,000 chip and added 10 extra 100 chips.
