    Hi,
Looking to move into installing aerials so I need to buy a meter. Currently installing satellites so I only need an aerial meter. Anyone have one for sale let me know? Please post the price, make and model.

    Thanks

You dont need one for installing aerials. Use a bit of ingenuity (look at neighbouring aerials).

The only reason you need one for satellites is because it's more difficult to align a satellite dish, mainly because you're operating in two plains. With aerials you're only operating in one (ie what direction the thing is pointing in).

That's all very well if your doing an install out in the open and with good signal strength. The time you need a Meter for is when you have fringe reception and want to optimize the setup. i.e Is it worth putting up a 3ft higher pole to get better reception.

Sometimes higher poles amount to nothing and sometimes you'll be totally sorted. So yes, I agree that the best way to go is with a meter.

Your best bet is to save a search on eBay for a Wolsey Lacuna TM2

If you REALLY want a decent meter (and I'm still not convinced) then something like a Swires Terry is probably a better bet. AFAIK they come in around £250 stg.

Use Google Maps and put on satellite view
    Search for nearest transmitter
    Place a point on it
Place a point on your house
Draw a line between the two
Zoom in your house with sat view and you'll see what boundary wall, hedge etc or landmarks are in your line of view to transmitter

Ok you definately need a meter if you intend becoming an installer. As previously mentioned fringe reception and all installs for that matter require a meter for correct alignment, otherwise you will spend all day up and down tweaking left and right to get a pic. Forget about any meter maplin are selling as these are only hobby meters and have noaccuracy. Promax make the best meter out there and if you search ebay you will pick up one second hand no problem, something like a MC160 is basic but good.
