Just had a slight tip...

Just had my first ever tip today (not my fault one must protest!)

Was leaving an industrial centre earlier and was in a line of cars queued at a T junction waiting to get out when someone reversed into the side of my car.

In fairness the guy was very apologetic about it and said he mustn't have checked his mirrors before pulling out (bet he won't forget to do this in future after today!).

Damage doesn't look *too* bad, however a family member in the know reckons it'll be in the region of E800 to repair.

Anyways I got his name, number, address, car reg.. didn't get his insurance details - he did give me the name of his broker though.

Did I get enough info from him? Never been involved in any sort of collision before so bit new to all this swapping info... Should I have taken down his insurance policy number?

And now for the fun business of getting repair quotes tomorrow, oh the joy!

    Ah.. feck!

In fairness though he did seem very genuine and decent about it.

In the event that name & address & number I got were completely fabricated (doubt this but these days y'never know...) would I have any luck getting onto his insurance company (saw their name) whilst having his reg number?

Lesson learnt for future - get policy number!

People are always apologetic when its their fault...but when he gets home and remembers that you didnt get his insurance details ,might get him thinking.....phone him NOW and get them or go to his address ....

Well I'll be getting some quotes tomorrow to see how much the damage will be (literally and figuratively!) will get onto the guy who hit me, and well let you know how it goes..

Fingers crossed there's still a few honest, decent people out there!

    Good news to report!

The guy who hit me was really down to earth and totally genuine, got a few quotes and because he was so decent and nice about everything I brought the cheapest quote to him as I didn't want to hit him too hard with a whopper of a bill (There was over 1k between quotes!!!).

All's done and dusted now so it all worked out OK, so very pleased with the outcome.

Thanks for all the advice anyhow everyone - will definitely get the policy number if there's a next time to make sure to cover myself.
