    Hi All,
I see that the cycle to work scheme website is down. Any idea where I can get a list of bike shops that are involved in the scheme?

I have been told of someone that bought a bike from Slane Cycles in Belfast using the scheme and saved an additional 15% on VAT. Anyone know if they are on the scheme? Cheers.

The shops you can use depend on your employer, there's no centralised management of which shops are and aren't doing it.

Thanks. My employer stated that I can chose from any of the shops listed on the http://www.bikescheme.ie/ (note to self - RTFM)
Raleigh2Work website. Pretty limited list but better than nothing. There goes my thoughts of saving an additional 15%.

Just tell your employer that it lists every bike shop in Europe then! :)

Are you sure it was that website and not the website of one of the third party providers? Some employers choose to use a third party to do the admin (and take a cut- Hi cdaly! ;)), and they have a defined if limited list of shops.

You couldn't legally have the VAT removed anyway, if your friend did it was an accounting error.

Out of curiosity and sort of in line with the original post - are there many shops that order and sell Planet X in Ireland? I see Marrey Cycles in Ballinrobe advertise them.

Planet X are only sold direct - they aren't sold by LBS.

Looks like that shop is trying to sell a second hand one.

Hi, see HSE list of suppliers attached, no Planet X I'm afraid!

I don't think anyone can complain with both CRC and Wiggle on the list (not sure if it's the right political message though:))

It's interesting that they have only one branch of Halfords on it.

Wiggle is there, presumably because they charge Irish VAT. Shame the Focus prices have gone up so much this year.

    Still, plenty of choice there.

edit: missed CRC! I wonder whether they'll be charging Irish VAT under this scheme?

Bear in mind it's an import for VAT purposes, and assuming the HSE is registered there should be no VAT applied by CRC, and the HSE will charge itself (irrecoverable) Irish VAT

Yes, but obviously when you're browsing the site you see prices with UK VAT, so you may need to adjust the budget accordingly.

Presumably the ordering isn't done via the website anyway.

That's not actually true, Planet X are (or at least were) also sold through dealers. I presume there is not a lot of margin on them. Geoffrey Butler did them and I know at least one shop in Ireland did them, can't recall if it was North or South though.
