I assume this thread has been done before but I'm going to start it again. What is your favourite movie?

Don't want to sound like a sap here, but for me it's The Godfather. It's just fvcking brilliant in so many different ways-Brando and Pacino's acting, the whole plot and for some reason I like the mix of languages in it.It's gotten worse press over the last few years from revisionist reviewers, but for me its still number 1.

The Godfather is definitely one of the greatest movies ever made. No doubt about it. I can't pick one. It would be too torturous to do so. I could maybe manage a top 50.

Star Wars, I love them all, yes all six.

    I admit I am wrong,

But I love them any way.

So, so many. And it can change from time to time. But one movie that always makes me sit down and watch it if it's on TV (even though I have it on DVD) is Se7en. One of the best films ever made. Dark, brooding, thrilling and with probably the best ending in cinema history.

"Seven Deadly Sins. Seven Ways To Die."

Ask me for my ten favourite films and you could get nine new films added to the list each time you ask me.

But if you ask me what my all time favourite film is, then the answer is simple.

A brilliant film, and like so many of the films made by Kurosawa, it is hugely influential on so many other films that I love.

The Life of Brian. It just one long laugh the whole way through.

I could toss a coin between The Shawshank Redemption and The Usual Suspects, Seven would be a close third with Full Metal Jacket getting an honourable mention.

    ^This.

No matter how many times I see it just never sits right, but not in a bad way, its so incredibly harsh but brilliant none the less

Its Goodfellas for me. Saw it for the first time when I was about 16. I never had much appreciation for things like acting, directing, dialogue etc until I saw this movie. Flawless. I have a list of other favourites but Goodfellas gets top spot by a mile.

    +1.

Not saying it's necessarily the best film ever made but it is my favourite. Very re-watchable alright.

its a tough one alright. i would have to say my favourite is Dazed and Confused. Its just such a great movie. Good dialogue, great characters, and the fact that there is little or no plot, makes it easy to watch. Great for hangovers :)

Die Hard is a close second :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 226 ✭✭Neonjack

Impossible to choose, but The Big Lebowski, Leon and The Boondock Saints would be up there.

It usually varies between the following

Alien - Loved it for years. A perfect movie IMO. Hope they don't screw up the Blu-Ray

Lawrence of Arabia - The greatest screenplay ever written. Again a perfect movie.

The Shawshank Redemption - Does anyone NOT like this film?
