Cost of Fiesta Mk 5 rear suspension mounts?

Car failed the NCT for the Nth time on Sat. 'Oke told me the rear suspension mounts were worn (Funny that none of the previous testers mentioned them). Anyway, I'm gonna get them done now since I'm tired of arguing with the folks at the test centre. The way I see it, whatever I get sorted on the car will benefit me in the long run anyway.

Anybody have a clue as to how much it would cost to replace both rear suspension mounts for a 2000 Ford Fiesta?

It's a common fault with them in their old age :), I had to get them done a few years ago on my '98. There were some other bushings that were replaced too at the same time so don't know the cost of just the shock mounts, but I think I paid about €350 in total.

However, how did you not notice this problem? I went to my mechanic because of the awful creaking noise coming from the rear suspension that's how I found out they were gone. The improvement in ride and handling afterwards was significant.

Pedant mode: Some people call it a Mk. 5, some people call it the Mk. 4 facelift (or maybe Mk. 4b) - I'd call it the latter as I don't think it was different enough.

Actually, the car feels perfectly fine. Even running on uneven roads, there aren't any noises coming from the back end.

I reckon the last guy that did the NCT was just a pedantic pr*ck as this is the fourth time the car has been through the test lane (long story there) and the three other guys that checked the car didn't mention anything about the suspension mounts.

At €350, that's quite expensive for an old small car. Repairs have been fairly cheap so far, so something like that would come as a surprise to me. Can you tell me how to visually check the mounts myself?

I don't know how to inspect the mounts, sorry.

Maybe they're only just on their way out in your case? It might be something that should be done sooner rather than later - my car was in the garage for two days as they had trouble getting the old mounts out, but I don't know if it was because they were in such a poor state or what. I think it involves a lot of labour anyway. You should get another 10 years or so out of them so it's not like it's going to be regular thing.

Found them on micksgarage.ie where they cost €23 for a set of rears. Fingers crossed, it won't cost €330 in labour to get them installed! :D

Check your local Ford dealer too, their prices can be very reasonable with parts
