Fractured Clavicle

    Hi
Came off bike about 10 days ago (ice at sally gap - my fault) , managed to fracture clavicle.
It's not that sore and i have it in sling in minimise movement and promote healing.
But I'm slightly concerned about my posture in the future. My shoulder is lower and has rolled forward slightly. Consultant did seem to understand my concern.

Anybody have a similar injury? How was it treated and what was outcome?

I've broken my right one twice - first time when I was four; second about 12 years ago off the bike.

The second time the recovery took a while; there's not much which will help besides rest, rest and then some more rest. After that you should invest in some physio and then try to build up (slowly) to recover from the muscle wastage afterwards.

+1 on the physio - as soon as your consultant says the bone is knitting well get onto your physio and get going nice and easy with flexibility and light strengthening exercises.

Have three clubmates at the moment recovering from broken clavicle/other shoulder injuries.

Things to watch out for - spending so long in the sling that you develop a frozen shoulder. Two have developed this to differing degrees and while their clavicle is now fine they're both looking at another 3+ months till they've full ROM back - a complete PITA if it happens.

I fractured my right clavicle last year when knocked off the bike.

I got excellent treatment on it from someone trained from NSRT and while many would describe me a complete knob from a collar bone point of view I'm perfect now.

Takes time, lots of pain, but it does get better.

Just back from the hospital today and got the all clear for my broken clavical. Not sure what happened as I was also knocked out. I was seven weeks in the sling and kept off work and told to avoid heavy lifting and contact sports for another four weeks. The main thing the doctor said was to keep my arm in the sling at a right angle and high (just below my chest). I bought a sling from the chemist which was alot better than the cloth one I got in the hospital

I had clavicle trouble for a number of years (work related) which saw my whole posture change as my shoulder was coming in towards my chest slightly, I have a great physio who does a good few triathlons.

He sent me for a scan and then onto a specialist in Navan who wanted to remove the clavicle, but my physio said no way, and that he would get me right with stretching and exercise, that was two years ago to date I have no problems.
