According to the latest issue of Rugby World, referees in South Africa are trialling watching video replays in the dead ball zone rather than having a separate TMO.

    It's also here http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,15999_5868505,00.html

Any thoughts? Personally I think it will mean longer stoppages and disrupt the flow of the game.

Anything new seems to slow down the game these days.

So without thinking about it, I'm dead set against.;)

I think the TMO works well. He's outside, and more impartial - less effected by the crowd's view of what happened.

It would be a shame to change it now.

No point and as you say would slow down game too much.

Are the Saffers trying to save a few rand? I cant see any other merit in it.

Are they trying to up the entertainment value, like in the NFL where the ref checks it?
Adds a bit of spice and the TV can stream the same video and do a split screen thing.

NFL is very stop start anyway and the technology in the stadiums would shame NASA.

Can you imagine Geaorge Clancy attempting to watch a reply on the dodgey screen in Musgrave Park but cant see it because the drunken Munster fan(probably me) is waving a flag in front of it!
