PC won't boot / replacement?

I bought the Aldi Medion Akoya last year in June, being delighted with the machine.
However, its proving to be a nightmare. Out of the blue, it stopped booting about 2 months after purchase, just doing the selftest beep and than the boot sequence stalled completely, couldn't even get into BIOS. Managed once to boot it up again next morning but afterwards no go.

Went back for repairs, back week later, allegedly repaired (faulty bootup sequence apparently, no hdd selected according to fault report). Reconnected everything, and exactly the same thing happened again. MAchine went back AGAIN for repairs, this time it took 2 weeks as apparently the harddrive was faulty and needed to be replaced.

It worked fine until Sunday morning, exactly the same thing yet again.
CUstomer service is no help, same old routine, pickup in 3 days, bla bla bla.
I demanded a replacement as I cannot trust the machine to ever work reliably, and the chances of a second hard drive failing after just 5 months are very slim in my opinion.
Also, by now I have lost any faith in their ability to actually correctly diagnose and rectify the problem. No joy from the customer server agent, he allegedly was unable to escalate the case, everything would have to go back to the factory or repair centre before any decision would be made.
Is there anyway i can force them to give me a replacement as I am clearly unable to use the PC for the purpose it is intended (i.e. work, loosing time etc) and who would be the point of contact? Aldi or the MEdion customer service?

Any idea what the actual fault could be? I am starting to think motherboard, as it stalls even before accessing drives, boot cd is no go either.
Another thing i just noticed is if i completely power off the box (unplug), when i plug it back in, the ON light will come on a second or so and then go off again although the machine was turned off before plugging out.
