    Hey,

I just bought a volvo S40 (2005) and the car only came with one key and no spare one, I decided I better buy a spare one just incase ;)

Where is the best place to get a volvo key (price wise) in the Dublin Area?

    cheers,

    Kevin

I'd say it's only main dealers, and they know how to charge.

Make sure it is the only key coded to the car - you can check how many are coded to open the car through the settings menu.

Just a thought my local key cutting shop has a notice up that they can cut and code keys for any major manufacturers cars. Never used it myself, but if they can do it I'd imagine they'd by cheaper than a main dealer. Although part of me suspects that any car really translates to any car prior to 1990 or something!

They're in the golden pages (http://www.goldenpages.ie/Locks_%26_Locksmiths/Cleggs/IE_11162564_9999_1001) if you wanted to give them a call and see if they can. They're based in Naas, but I can't imagine that they are the only place around who offer this service.

The S40 key is a strange one

So I don't think anyone will be able to supply one except Volvo.

OP - Check if an older key can be reprogrammed and the blade cut. You never know who might have a spare Volvo key and I'd say that would save a bit of cash.

Main Dealer only, your looking at €218 to supply & programme spare key.

I was in the same boat:

    €106 for the key.
    €95 to program it.

    Volvo main dealer only.

When you get a new key, both the new one and existing one are reprogrammed, so if someone did have a key on the sly it will no longer work once your keys are reprogrammed.
