i am so close to throwing the laptop against the wall, nearly everytime i go online i get "not responding" when i use internet explorer. the laptop itself is slow so i don't know is it just coz it was cheap and uses windows vista basic or is there something i can do to speed it up?!?!

Re install windows, drastic but the laptop will fly along.
    Google how to do it.

Try downloading malwarebytes and running it. The symptoms sound very similar to a PC I fixed last week.
It threw up a rootkit, but couldn't resolve it (ended up doing clean install :(). You might have more luck with it before reverting to a clean boot

    yeah check for malware

    empty cache in IE

try IE in it's safe mode in case it's an add-in causing the problem

also try installing firefox, it uses it's own DNS so will rule out that

make sure system is patched up to date, but check for malware first
