I was going to upgrade my account to the max package with NTL, but they tell me that if i ever want to downgrade its gona cost me 15 quid!

Thats 15 quid for them to click a button to downgrade my account! Whats the story there? I decided not to upgrade based on that one fact, and its the last straw( had quite a few issues with them in the last few months).

Id move to sky if i could but cant put up a dish on my apt block but will be moving in the next year or so to an area were i can get sky.

Has anyone else been stung by this 15 quid downgrade fee, and is there a way around it?

I don't know why they do this. It means people will be less inclined to go for the premium packages.
I would go for the sports channels I could switch off in May and switch back on in August and not be charged €15.00 for my trouble. But because of this charge I remain on the Value pack.

I hope you let them know this. I don't think there is anyway around it. It probably stems back to the "dodgy boxes" when people were all downgrading their system since they got all the channels on only needed the basic subscription. Also stops people just getting football or whatever sport in just for its season and then cancelling.

Ring them to cancel, and they usually offer to put you on the basic plan...

You could aways invest in an xbox and get sky that way.

Two good points. Op you should let them know they are loosing out on some extra business because of this, and probably lose all your business in the future that you will be going to sky.

Strange the fee didn't disappear when the dodgy boxes went, they must have forgot to remove it

I did, i told them it made me consider cancelling, they just said they would transferr me to cancellations. no hesitation in the guy whatsoever.

How about that for customer service! unfortunately im stuck with them as cant put a sky dish on an apt block. damn NTL, cant wait until i can be rid of them forever.

That's because it's the cancellations department whose job it is to try and get you to stay.

That's scabby. We change our digital and broadband package up and down at no extra charge. They make more money out of it in the long run because we extra extra a few months every year.

I think upgrading and then trying to cancel to see what happens could be a good idea. Would be interesting to see what happened!

Most people with the dodgy boxes where on analogue so didn't have to do any down grades

There was a thread on this in the Cable & MMDS & IPTV fourm and this is the reason why UPC brought in the charge, not that it's a good reason for having it
