Well. My opinion only of course but:

    1. Price tends towards 4000 euro regardless of what the ads say. Personally I'd be inclined to wonder about practices that think bait and switch is a reasonable marketing practice (ie: only 525 per eye, which suddenly becomes 2000 per eye in your case).

    2. Matter of opinion - search the Poll thread above. After care is important. If they don't see you again within 24 hours I believe they're in breach of FDA guidelines, but probably not the law. Either way, they suck. Wellington has been recommended by many and I know they're busy in there. They've no need to advertise. Neither does Blackrock Clinic.

    3.

Absolute Musts: They must measure your corneal thickness. They must measure your Dark Adapted Pupil Diameter (I'm told that chemical dialation is good approximate to this, albeit bloody uncomfortable for you*). If your chosen surgery doesn't do these, walk away. Seriously. Just walk away.

Personally I think Wavefront is a must for a moderate myope like you. I personally would ignore anything else. As a minor point, surgeons are far more interested in -5s and up then they are in -2s. Not sure why :)

For a -5.25 (which I am thereabouts), 510 microns is too thin for safety. Those were my readings and are meant to give you a rough idea. I believe 550 microns is "loads", at least that's what Wellinton said to me. If I went for it, I'd be doing Lasek. Lasek is unpleasant, uncomfortable, takes a good while to get nominal vision. It's also arguably safer. If you do kick boxing, consider lasek :-)

The effective ablation diameter for the Visx Star and Allegretto (that covers most clinics here) is 6.5mm. That means the fancy computer guided profile they lase onto your eye is 6.5mm in diameter. Modern lasers (certainly both the above) do a blend out to 8mm so you don't get a nasty step at 6.5mm.

If your Dark Pupil Diameter is above 8mm, forget it*. Above 6.5mm, you'll be wanting to ask some hard questions of your surgeon. Previously, those with DAPDs above 6.5mm got "lesser quality vision" at night (ie: were screwed). The blending makes things a good bit safer though.

    Hope this helps.
