Helping your chances with AGS?

    Hey all,

I'm leaving certless at the moment, so I have time to work on that. The minimum Garda requirements from the LC don't seem too difficult so I'm sure I'll at least be able for the bare necessary education wise.

The leaving cert is a two year course really, so I've plenty of time to try to squeeze some other stuff in before I ever get anywhere near a Garda Application form.

My question is, aside from having the bare-necessities required (ie; decent sight, level of fitness, etc.) is there anything you can do to help your chances with AGS in future?

Would spending some time trying to get into a security related job help me at all?

I've no drivers license. I assume that's something that would be crucial...?

Just looking for some advice or thoughts on things that I could do now that could make life easier for me when I do try and apply to the Gardaì.

Also, anything I could do to hinder myself?

    Cheers :)

Get your Leaving, get a full B licence and join some sort of community group or the RDF/GR/Civil Defence/RNLI/Coast Guard.

Don't bother with a security job.

The licence isn't crucial but will be handy, and avoid getting in trouble for anything (including road traffic issues) or associting with those who do.

Get some courses under your belt if you can. EMT, EFR, boating etc to show you are motivated.
