Im having trouble getting a smooth start off in 1st gear. I give it some revs, start to release the clutch, car starts moving but i get a jolt when i release the clutch fully, i need to give it loads of revs 5K or so to get a smooth take off. Gear change in every other gear is 100%. Its as if im lifting my foot off the throttle when fully releasing the clutch - any ideas?

    Thanks.

That sounds like it could be a clutch related problem. :)

You sure you're starting off in 1st and not 3rd?

Sounds like this could be the case. I've done it before in unfamiliar cars.

Some years ago i had a Celica, prob a mark 3. I had the exact same problem and boy was it the simplest thing to cure, and the last i would have thought of.
The was a split in the air intake. This would only open when the clutch was released and the engine moved on its mountings, thus opening the split and letting a lot of air in.
immediate cure, a squirt of masticy stuff.

    regards, Rugbyman

Hard to say without more detail. Not necessarily a clutch problem though, how is the engine running? If you had a faulty plug coil (known issue on petrol renaults) then you'd need lots of throttle and clutch slip to move away smoothly but you'd also experience lumpy running all the time.

I have also come across a car which ran OK but with light throttle input when idling in neutral, the revs would drop . Moving away smoothly required lots of throttle. I never heard what caused this. Possibly due to a sensor or a throttle pot.

I would have thought that such a person would have been quite likely to post on here actually, but sorry for trying to be helpful.

    Thanks all,

Its running perfect otherwise - its going in next week to have its display replaced so will have them take a look. Would something like this show up on a diagnostic machine?

Does it have a conventional or an electric parking brake?

It has the electronic parking brake, does this with it on or off.
